M A S C

The Thesis

An exploration of performed gender through the culture and history of bling as a hip-hop fashion staple.

Foucault claims that power is knowledge – those who create knowledge hold the reins to their own power – this is the basis of rap and the beginning of bling as armor.

The Exhibition
M A S C  was exhibited to industry professionals and the public at
Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design in SoHo, London.
The idea was to explore how a concept could travel from writing, through design, and into the physicality of a product. The final print run was a full album booklet that, instead of describing lyrics and inspiration for songs, elaborated on the connection between hip-hop culture, bling, and performed masculinity in fashion.
